Corporation
Sustainable development is a key element of the Obolon Corporation’s strategy. It allows the company to implement its corporate ambitions and fully develop each of its CSR areas: employee development, environment protection, promotion of sports, and support of the local communities.
Production
Producing beverages with a high level of quality and safety is the basis for the long-term development of the Obolon Corporation. Stability of production processes and guaranteed quality and safety of its beverages ensure that the company achieves its goals on the way to sustainability.
Environment
Climate change, resource depletion, and energy dependence are the challenges of the 21st century for individuals as well as for large manufacturers. Reduction of environmental impact and conservation of nature are priorities for Obolon as the largest Ukrainian beverage producer.
Economics
Obolon makes both a direct and an indirect impact on the economy of the country as a whole and specific regions where its facilities are located through job creation, paying taxes to the local and state budgets, development of related industries, and support of the social culture.
Society
Adhering to the principles of sustainable development, Obolon views the participation in the social life of the regions where its facilities are located as an important component of developing Ukrainian society as well as its own business.

Problem
  • According to the “Business in Community” global partnership network, over 40% of multinational companies around the world have volunteering programs and cooperate with non-governmental organizations in various forms.
  • According to “A world in Trust – Leadership and CSR” annual report, 30% of the companies use social programs for commercial benefit, and 24% do so to protect their business reputation.
  • In Ukraine, such projects are only at the early stages of development.Today, the social responsibility of Ukrainian companies is making a gradual transition from one-time PR activities to systematic long-term social initiatives. However, for the most of the business world, CSR still remains an image-building element.
Decision
  • Year after year, the Corporation has been taking part in charitable community initiatives as well as government programs, and launching its own social initiatives.
  • Each year, the company makes up a social budget and allocates a significant part of its products for implementation of social programs.
  • In 2007, Obolon was one of the first Ukrainian companies to joint the UN Global Compact, reasserting its status as a responsible and transparent company.
  • Since 2008, the company has been publishing annual non-financial reports on its progress in the CSR arae.
  • All 10 companies of the Corporation are currently in active cooperation with the local communities, support the sociocultural life, leisure, and develop the programs of local importance. The Corporation supports the reconstruction of schools, renovations in hospitals and churches, and work of local libraries.

The long-term social investment program allows Obolon to support several important events, significant projects, and volunteer initiatives each year.The social responsibility of the company promotes the well-being of communities and vulnerable social groups, and gives the Obolon Corporation a responsible and transparent reputation in the eye of the business community.

Obolon volunteers at an orphanage

14 volunteers rebuilt the orphanage facilities. The company provided UAH 6,000 worth of paint, lacquers and wallpaperl. A 100 L water heating boiler was purchased

In June 2014, a trip to Mostyshche boarding school in Makariv District, Kyiv Region, was organized by the employees of Obolon’s marketing service. Fourteen company's volunteers repaired and renovated the territory of the school. Obolon allocated UAH 6,000 to purchase paint, lacquers, wallpaper, detergents, and other materials. A 100 L water heating boiler was also purchased by the company. This was the third such trip of the company employees to a child care facility.

“In Children’s Palms”: a programme for supporting children with Down’s syndrome

For for three years running, Obolon became a partner of the charity project intended to aid children with Down’s syndrome. The project was initiated by the Administration of Obolonskyi District of Kyiv and “In Children’s Hands” NGO. The activity included a fundraiser for the operation and development of the Centre for Rehabilitation of Children with Mental and Physical Disabilities. In support of the project,Шт 2014 the company donated 350 litres of its produce, provided gifts, and gave UAH 40,000 of financial aid.

Social investments in the Podillia Region

The largest number of Obolon facilities are in Khmelnytskyi Region. In 2012–2015, the Corporation invested over UAH 3 million into that region. The project included constructing playgrounds, a territory beautification programme, purchasing and installing boiler plant equipment for a school in Zavadyntsi, Chemerivtsi District, and renovationing the rural clinic in Ivankivtsi, Horodok District.

Supporting of young scientists

In 2015, "Obolon" supported the association of students of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (ESTIEM), who study the fundamentals of engineering industry and management processes in this regard.
In the framework of this cooperation the company joined the international project T.I.M.E.S. (Eng. - Tournament In Management and Engineering Skills). This is the largest case-tournament in Europe for future industrial engineers and managers.

Sports Holiday for Children

For three years in a row, the company volunteers hold sports events on the Children’s Day and the school leaving day at Obolon Arena stadium.Summarily, over 160 trainees of Zmina sports school attended those events. The events include sports activities, soccer master classes from Obolon-Brovar players, and friendly games. Each child received presents from the volunteers, and the parents of the young soccer players took part in a quiz.

Support for Vulnerable Social Groups

For a long time, Obolon has been taking care of four family-type orphanages in Kyiv (Obolon District) and Kyiv Region (Fastiv, Bila Tserkva and Pyshchyky). Last year, the company donated over UAH 65,000 as well as its produce to low income families in the region.In 2015, Obolon provides targeted financial aid to selected persons.

Benevolence in Each of Us

In December 2013, Obolon joined the “Benevolence” charity initiative of the students of Obolonskyi District schools.The event was organized on Saint Nicholas Day in support of the students of Kyiv boarding schools No. 27 and No. 4 as well as sick children at the Okhmatdyt hospital. As part of the charity initiative, Obolon donated over UAH 3,000 worth of 500 L of drinks, and gave about UAH 15,000 worth of presents.

Community Facilities Reconstruction

Under the social investment programmes, Obolon takes part in reconstructing schools, renovating religious buildings and repairing hospitals in the regions where the Corporation’s companies are present.In particular, in 2013, Obolon donated UAH 98,600 in financial aid for reconstructing and renovating religious buildings in Fastiv, and over UAH 128,000 for supporting the district hospital and local schools in Okhtyrka.

“Social Beverages”

For a long time, Obolon has been building partnership relations with non-governmental organizations, charity foundations, and state institutions, as well as with religious, cultural, and education associations.In the course of such cooperation, the Corporation has established a network of friendly organizations across Ukraine. In 2015, Obolon donated over 430,000 litres of its products for the needs of partnership communities and organizations in the regions where its production facilities are located, while the total value of produce donated was over UAH 2.7 million.

  • Achieving a gender balance is important for sustainable development not only as an ethical norm, but as a requirement for effective operation.The companies of Obolon Corporation have about 28% of female employees.Under the Gender Plan adopted in 2011 and the Collective Bargaining Agreement revised in 2012, Obolon guarantees and ensures equal employment rights for men and for women.More
  • The early 2000s boosted the development of corporate volunteering at the Obolon Corporation facilities.The donorship movement in the company, initiated by the employees, has been growing for over 14 years.Each year new employees join the regular donors and continue the noble tradition in the company.   • In 2013, the Obolon Corporation reduced its production waste levels by 48.5%. Among other things, this was achieved due to comprehensive recycling of used PET packaging.For 12 years, Obolon has been running the waste plastic packaging recycling project.The collection of used bottles, reduction of emissions, and reduction of energy consumption help Obolon significantly reduce its environmental impact.More
